Key Sentence:
- Singer and Afro-pop guitarist Zahara isn’t going to rain down on trolls at his parade and react to someone’s punch trying.
- Hitmaker “Loliwe” recently shared a visual image of his latest single, Nyamezela, on social media.
When Zahara took to social media to celebrate the release of her powerful music video, a Twitter user named Vuyela Madela decided to spoil her special moment. “Only 77 comments after 12 hours. I wonder what happens to the popularity of artists after they leave TS Records,” a user commented.
But Zahara didn’t want to hear it. Zahara left her former record label TS Records in 2016 after claiming she was owed millions of rands for album and show sales. Former recording boss DJ Sbu Leope and “TK” Thembinkosi Nciza, who has since closed shop, challenged Zahara’s claims and insisted that the singer was paid for the three albums he recorded on the label.
Since then, Zahara has signed a deal with Warner Music Group and is gearing up to release their long-awaited fifth album titled “Nqaba Yam.” The album will be released on July 9th. “Nyamezela”, which means “survive” in the loose translation, is an unusual take on star-worshipping music.
The song follows the theme from the album “Nqaba Yam”, which is the soundtrack to Star magazine – performed by their own country music. Directed by Monde Dube, the video is a representation of a star moving from darkness to light.
The video shows Zahara rising from her past trauma and disappointment. “This video captures my place in the top of my head and where I am right now. I wanted to share a message of hope and resilience in difficult times,” the star said.
After touring the US and Canada with Grammy-winning legend Kirk Wallum-Zahara, he believes his star is just rising. Zahara is South Africa’s most acclaimed female artist with more than 30 awards and was recently named one of the BBC’s 100 Women 2020 – a list celebrating women who inspire and influence around the world.
